By World War II the submarine had a surface speed of about 18 knots using diesel engines and a submerged speed of 8 knots using electric motors. It was forced to surface periodically in order to recharge its batteries.
Try to make a model of a submarine out of clay or from one of the kits which you can buy at model shops.
